An annual "National Model UN Conference of University Students" will be held at Gachon University for four days from July 2 to 5. Starting with the first conference in 1995, this year's conference will be the 29th anniversary. As a large-scale event for university students across the country is held on our campus this year, Gachon University is encouraging students to pay a lot of attention and participate in the event. They will provide full support for participation fees to enrolled students on a first-come, first-served basis and are conducting various promotional activities.

Model UN Conference of University Students is the largest university student event in Korea, where university students from all over the country can be gathered to recognize the role of the UN and the importance of international cooperation, and indirectly experience the process of diplomatic negotiations. The students who participate in the conference become ambassadors of the UN, have discussions representing each country's positions on the agenda and then go through the process of drawing out resolutions. The model UN conference is open to any student from a four-year university in Korea who is interested in international community affairs. Participants in the conference are divided into two roles. "Representatives" are the ones who directly participate in the discussion, while the "Observers" can observe the conference and adopt resolutions through consultation with the representatives.

The National Model UN Conference of University Students has been held every year since it began in 1995 to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the founding of the UN. The first conference was organized by Korea University. It can be said that it was a massive event from the beginning, with 25 universities participating at that time. Each year, a minimum of 170 and a maximum of 450 students participated in the conference. The form of conference has been conducted in a way that reproduces the actual decision-making structure of the UN and deals with international issues discussed at the UN. The annual model UN conference held at different universities draws attention every time with the participation of many students and their heated discussions. In particular, the 24th conference organized by Chungnam University is well known for inviting former UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon to hold a public conversation with him.

This year's 29th model UN conference will be held with three agendas that are current issue in the international community, and students will apply for and participate in the agendas they want. The agendas of this meeting are "Climate Change and International Security”, "International Cooperation to Counter Global Health Crisis" and "UN’s Role in Combating Challenges and Threats in Cyber Space." Awards will be given to each conference according to each agenda, and the grand prize winner will be awarded a Foreign Minister Award along with a prize of 1 million won. In addition, all participants will be given a certificate of participation. Gachon University said that they plan to actively discuss international issues through the UN conference so that students can grow into global leaders with talents in leadership, teamwork, and communication skills.

The model UN conference is a good opportunity for students to improve their understanding and thinking skills on international issues by participating in conferences they are interested in and sharing various opinions with each other. It will be a great help to students who want to build valuable experiences and pleasant memories with university students across the country. Above all, as the national event is held on campus, Gachon University students need to pay a lot of attention to this event.
