To celebrate Coming-of-Age Day, several departments including Bio-Nano, Public Administration, Civil Engineering, Practical Architecture, and Food Biotechnology came together to host a collaborative event titled Hyang Yeon. The name, which means a connection that started with scent, reflects the event’s unique focus on building new relationships among students who have just turned twenty.
Encouraging Student’s Responsibility and Self-Care
The event featured various booths offering practical gifts such as solid perfumes, hygiene kits, and contraceptives. Its aim was to promote self-care and a sense of responsibility as students enter adulthood. One of the event’s highlights was Meeting by Scent. Participants selected a scent that attracted them, tagged their social media accounts on a matching scent sheet, and took sheets posted on the board to connect with others.
Students voices: the Impact of “Hyang Yeon”
We interviewed a student from the Department of Architecture about the event’s impact:
Our student council prepared this event, and it really made me feel like I’ve become an adult — especially with the sense of responsibility that comes with it. I think events like this are a great way to connect people who wouldn’t usually meet, such as students from different colleges or departments. Creating opportunities for new relationships in an official, welcoming environment like this is really meaningful. I would definitely join again if the event is held in the future.
Building Bridge Across Department
Events like Hyang Yeon foster communication and connections across departments while offering meaningful experiences for students celebrating Coming-of-Age Day.
